Locking of the metacarpo-phalangeal joint from a loose body. Report of a case.

چکیده
Triggering of finger joints due to tendon lesions is a well known entity, but locking of the metacarpo-phalangeal joint due to a derangement of the joint or its capsule is uncommon. In 1949 Langenskiold reported two cases in which the collateral ligaments were catching on the metacarpal head and causing the locking; he noted that this possibility had been mentioned by Poirier in 1889. The same mechanism was responsible in the five cases described by Aston (1960). Goodfellow and Weaver (1961) reported five patients in whom locking was due to osteophytes on the volar aspect of the metacarpal head catching in the anterior part of the capsule and the volar plate; they pointed out that this type of lesion could explain the curious case reported by Alldred (1954). Locking from irregularities in the articular surface of the

Locking of the metacarpo-phalangeal joints.
Case 1-in January 1972 a nurse aged twenty years presented with locking of the left index finger. Earlier the same day she had been removing sutures, holding a forceps in the left hand, when the second metacarpo-phalangeal joint “locked” in the flexed position and she could not straighten it. She gave no history of any injury but said that during the preceding month she had noticed “cramps” in ...
متن کاملArthroscopic treatment of synovial chondromatosis of the shoulder joint: case report and review
Abstract Two cases (20 and 15 years old) of shoulder joint synovial chondromatosis were initially treated with arthroscopic debridement. One was further treated with a second arthroscopy and partial synovectomy (case 1) the second was fully treated by arthroscopic surgery (case 2). The postoperative control X- ray revealed no loose body and the joint was normal. One of the cases (case 1) was a...
متن کاملReverse Total Shoulder Arthroplasty for the Treatment Of Synovial Chondromatosis: A Case Report and Review of the Literature
Synovial chondromatosis affecting the glenohumeral joint is rare. Treatment primarily consists of arthroscopic loose body removal and synovectomy. Shoulder arthroplasty has been mentioned in the literature as a treatment option for patients with coexisting arthritis, although the results have been underreported. The case of an 84-year-old man with long standing synovial chondromatosis of the sh...
متن کاملComplex dorsal subluxation of the metacarpo-phalangeal joint of the thumb requiring open reduction: a case report.
The authors present an case of a thumb metacarpophalangeal joint dislocation which was made complicated by the interposition of the sesamoid bone which required open reduction. The intact volar plate prevented closed reduction. The anatomy and surgical management of this unusual case is described.
متن کاملThe anatomy of the metacarpo-phalangeal joints, with observations of the aetiology of ulnar drift.
One hundred normal fingers were dissected and arthrographs obtained by injection of chromopaque-gelatin mixture, allowing comparison between the radiographic and macroscopic configuration of the synovial capsule. Synovial recesses protruding from each side of every metacarpo-phalangeal joint were found in relation to the collateral ligaments and corresponding exactly with the site of radiologic...
